DA Premiere: Lazy Rich and Hot Mouth – Flash (Original Mix)
Have no fear, electro is alive and well in the hands of Lazy Rich and Hot Mouth. The pair join forces for the first time on "Flash," flying under the mau5trap flag for their debut output as a duo, planting themselves firmly back in the electro conversation. Reminiscent of both artists older work, the duo piece together a driven and funky tech-house output that oozes with electro house appeal. Conjuring up a bit of 2008 nostalgia courtesy of Lazy Rich's gritty synthwork and Hot Mouth's gold-plated melodies, "Flash" is a no-nonsense dance floor fire starter -- one crafted back when a time when the beats were harder and the the sounds were quintessentially underground.
Rina Mushonga – Eastern Highlands (Joris Voorn Extended Remix)
For those needing a soothing melody to help ease them into the weekend, Joris Voorn has you covered with his new extended remix for Rina Mushonga's "Eastern Highlands." The track progresses through nine minutes of breezy guitar riffs floating atop elegant vocals with a hint of tropical percussion.
Sharkoffs – Better Side of You (feat. Daniel Simmons)
The first vocal track to come out of camp Sharkoffs comes complete with a top line from Daniel Simmons. "Better Side of You," may be the up-and-coming producer's first foray into the lyrical side of laser-light shows, but his talent for delivering high-octane electro house is in no way hindered by Simmons arena-ready howls. Crunchy and adrenaline-laced with a top line destined for festival consumption, "Better Side of You" may be Sharkoffs best output to date -- a promising portrayal of what's in store for the future.
Swedish House Mafia – Leave the World Behind (Bender Remix) [Free Download]
As the deep house revolution continues to take root, it only seems appropriate that some of dance music's most iconic tracks be brought into the sub bass fold. Enter Bender, the New York-based producer who twists the Swedish House Mafia classic, "Leave the World Behind" into a brooding deep house cut. An appropriate after hours rendition of the trio's most recognizable output, Bender's touch leaves little of the original intact -- only a baritone version of the top line remains, bookended by chattering percussion, swirling white noise and a rumbling elastic bass line.
Cashmere Cat – Wedding Bells (Lazerdisk Remix)
Cashmere Cat's "Wedding Bells" was a downtempo marvel of trap-vibes and enchanting howls, that is until Lazerdisk put their own touch on the Norweigan output. On the duo's rendition, the LA-based producers match the original's slow-brewed grooves with a twisted videogame-inspired topcoat, overlaying shrill synthwork over Cashmere Cat's hazy underbelly. If the original was a bit too mellow for you, Lazerdisk's re-imagining adds just the right amount of bump to quench your thirst for energetic electronica.
Deadmau5 and Kaskade take the Purrari out for a coffee run
Last week, Deadmau5 and Kaskade took to the road in the Purrari for a 32-minute coffee run in what could be the most entertaining installment yet. As always during the Coffee Run series, conversation is causal and bounces from production, to music, to EDM, Meowington's and everything in between. Kaskade talks about the incredible sound at Brooklyn's Output and then discusses his encounter with the Redux scalper (or is it redeux?). Rob Ford is also a topic of conversation, as the Toronto mayor was scheduled for a coffee run but was busted for smoking crack again and had to cancel. Watch two of dance music's most prominent figures grab some coffee and shoot the shit above.
