Amirali and Felix da Housecat share decks for special live Essential Mix
This past week on the weekly twelve-hour dance music marathon (which as many of you know includes shows from Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Skream & Benga, and Annie Nightingale), Radio 1 also decided to throw a bit of a curveball for the Essential Mix, presenting both Amirali and Felix da Housecat for dual live hour-long sets recorded in the BBC Radio 1 studio.
Holy Ship!! recaps its 2013 voyage, announces pre-booking for 2014
HARD Events' second annual voyage of the electronic music Holy Ship!! took place this past January, sailing on a luxury liner from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Nassau, Bahamas and casually stopping along the way for a beach rave on a private island. On top of an announcement for 2014's Holy Ship!!! (notice the extra exclamation points), they've also released a seven minute recap video of this year's event -- capturing the best of sets from Diplo, the dirtybird crew, Skrillex, Justice, A-Trak, Skream & Benga, Knife Party, Tommy Trash, and countless more. There's nothing that doesn't look ridiculously fun about this boat rave -- let's all go next year.
Good Morning Mix – Radio 1’s Dubstep Warz (01/09/2006)
If you got into electronic music through the sounds of dubstep as I did, Mary Anne Hobbs should be a name that is synonymous with the genre. Her early efforts at BBC Radio 1 helped foster the infamous radio station's experimental show—formerly called Breezeblock, where she launched Dubstep Warz in 2006.
Dancing Astronaut’s Editors’ Selections for 2012
We've gone over the biggest artists, albums, and tracks of 2012, but our end of the year roundup really wouldn't be complete unless we talked about our own favorites from this year. These are the songs that made us feel, gave us chills, made us party, and made us cry. You'd probably find these tracks with high play counts in our music libraries and dripping with nostalgia if you make us talk about them further.
Shadow Child’s 23 EP represents high point for UK garage and bass
Dave Spoon has made it pretty clear in 2012 that Shadow Child is not just a side project anymore. Spoon made his debut under the Shadow Child veil in March of this year with the release of "String Thing" on Dirtybird Records (you may also recognize it from Eats Everything's Essential Mix). Shadow Child's sound is a spot on representation of the UK garage and bass sound that has dominated much of our beloved industry in 2012. Earlier this week, he released a four part EP, 23, on Food Music, a label he shares with Kry Wolf, Tom Flynn, Hannah Wants, and James Talk.
