DA’s Best of the Rest: Thursday November 15th, 2012
Best of the Rest is a daily feature from Dancing Astronaut that recaps the most important posts of the day as well as the stuff we didn’t get to. With the rapidity that dance music news and releases come out it’s difficult for us to hit everything — we hope BOTR serves as a catch-all. Make sure to check it out at the end of each day to ensure you don’t miss anything!
Lifelike & A-Trak release ‘Don’t Stop,’ Gigamesh, Mauvais Cliché, The Bloody Sisters hop on remix train
We've come to associate French producer Lifelike with fellow countrymen Alan Braxe, the late DJ Mehdi, Justice, and Daft Punk and known he's been working on his debut artist album, Future Disco, for quite some time now. With Kitsune Maison's release of the first single off the album "Don't Stop" as a remix package we now get our first tasty bits of this disco-techno goodness. A-Trak's ever-skillful turntablism complements Lifelike's on-point French electro-disco production. The remix duties go to Minnesotan Gigamesh (who manages to give the track even more of a vintage feel) as well as Parisians Mauvais Cliche and The Bloody Sisters. If that wasn't enough, the EP release also includes club and extended mixes. Check out a sampling below.
A-Trak keeps listeners on their toes for Fool’s Gold Radio November 2012
Another month, another impeccable Fool's Gold Radio mix courtesy of scratch-addict A-Trak. There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said about the Fool's Gold Radio show - it is the embodiment of what it means to be a DJ. Eclectic, stylish and flawlessly mixed, A-Trak's latest outing is a lesson in what you should be listening to. Opening with the hauntingly beautiful remix of "All Your Gold" by Hercules and the Love Affair, A-Trak wastes no time showcasing a wide swath of sounds and styles. Featuring his latest collaboration with Lifelike, "Don't Stop," as well as cuts from Club Cheval, Tony Quattro, Van Toth, and more, A-Trak once again delivers a mix that will find a permanent home in our iTunes.
Fool’s Gold Radio stays fresh and funky for October
After nearly 14 months since its inception, A-Trak's brainchild, Fool's Gold Radio continues to deliver some of the freshest and funkiest tunes in dance music today. Interspersed with A-Trak's casual humor, this hour-long mix genre hops from techno to acid house to chill wave and back again. It's the perfect mix for those of us with iTunes ADHD. As always, A-Trak flawlessly mixes his favorites of the moment, taking us on a tour of his extensive library of choice cuts. Stand out tracks include "ARYM" from Bromance Records resident Monseiur Monseiur, A-Trak and Tommy Trash's brand new track "Tuna Melt," and Dancing Astronaut favorite Amtrac's "Never Dug Disco." Staying true to the mantra that a DJ should play songs you've never heard, A-Trak delivers yet again - asserting himself as a true tastemaker in an increasingly vanilla scene.
