Golden Features – Tell Me Feat. Nicole Millar (Bixel Boys Remix)
Bixel Boys are coming off a massive summer of festival and club appearances, and what better way to do so than with yet another main stage-ready remix? The Los Angeles duo pump Golden Features' "Tell Me" - already a deep, brooding song - full of twisted, beguiling energy. But as aggressive and loud as the remix may be, it still has all of the melodic charm of the Bixel Boys' softer, more tropical tracks. One of the most impressive components of the song is Nicole Millar's voice, which is full and confident and is a perfect fit for both the original and the remix. The track seems to be built simultaneously for main stages and small clubs, as appealing to fist-pumpers as it is to dancers. In short, it's just another example of the Bixel Boys' astounding versatility.
Bixel Boys – Clutch (Original Mix)
The Bixel Boys continue on their fast-paced ascent into the dance music spotlight with the release of the B-Side off their Empire EP. After premiering the "Empire" here on Dancing Astronaut, the Bixels released their the EP's B-Side dubbed "Clutch." A strange blur of techno and electro, the LA duo's genre ADD is fully-realized on "Clutch," unleashing a cacophony of monstrous kicks, horn blares, skull shattering snares and a tweaked out vocal sample. A seemingly genre-less collection of electronic noise, the Boys yet again prove that if it makes you move who gives a fuck what it's called.
DA Premiere: Bixel Boys – Empire (Original Mix)
Los Angeles duo and #FreeLife proponents, Bixel Boys, follow up their Bring it On EP, with another cutting edge offering dubbed Empire. The title track on the two-cut extended play finds the pair dabbling deep in the techno arena, merging industrial grit and driving rhythms with tastefully prepared electro flair. Like two mad alchemists, the Bixels continue to blur lines and scoff at genre distinctions, leaving little room for pigeonholing and plenty of space for quality music. Catch the boys live throughout the summer.
Architecture in Helsinki – Might Survive (Bixel Boys Remix)
The Bixel Boys latest remix duties come at the hands of Architecture in Helsinki's "Might Survive," prepping the mix with subtle swirls and subdued chord play. True technicians in delivering a host of different styles, the LA-based duo complement rather than deconstruct the Aussie's indie aesthetic. Dabbling in French-inspired indie dance, Bixel's rendition if "Might Survive" captures the original's charm in a chilled out landscape of lush pads and chattering percussion.
The Crystal Method ft. Dia Frampton – Over It (Bixel Boys Remix) [Free Download]
After a bevy of high quality reworks and an impeccable EP, the Bixel Boys take on their biggest remix to date. Enlisted to remix The Crystal Method's "Over It" featuring Dia Frampton, the LA-based duo add their signature spin to the legendary duo's latest single. In a hail of filter cut brimstone, the Boys twist Dia Frampton's sultry vocals with pitch bends and a bass line that waxes and wanes in a fog of white noise. More subdued and easy-listening than some of their latest work, the Bixel Boys treatment of "Over It" turns the mix into rainy day music, a fitting mood for Frampton's melancholic vocals.
