Blood Diamonds creates dreamy soundscapes with two-track ‘Osaka’ EP
Former videogame designer turned hip-hop infused electronica producer, Blood Diamonds, joins the OWSLA family with his forthcoming EP, Osaka. A two-track case study on the boundlessness of electronic music, Osaka may be one of the most interesting releases off Skrillex's powerhouse label in the last six months. First there is the the title track, "Osaka," a subdued and casual cocktail of ambient synthwork and capricious percussion that floats with ease as tension builds but never quite breaks. Next up is the appropriately named, "Apex," a track that allows the EP's tension to reach its pinnacle, crashing down in a wave of eerie vocal samples and mechanized sound design that feel as if they were plucked from the soundtrack of a space-aged videogame.
Blood Diamonds feat. Dominic Lord – Barcode (Figure Remix)
Indiana native and horror-step producer, Figure, takes on Blood Diamonds' "Barcode" with a furious barrage of screaming drum and bass and groaning synthesizers. What was once a chillwave-tinged trap production with verses from Dominic Lord, Figure's rendition of "Barcode" tears the production limb from limb, re-assembling it like a dubstep mad scientist - is this where the heart goes? who the hell knows. The track starts innocently enough, until Figure pushes the tempo through the roof, delivering a bass-fueled and thrashing assault on your eardrums - and your sanity.
