The inaugural releases of Rotterdam beatmaker Moods have been a soulful affair, with singles as varied as sample-savvy “Love Is Real” and the Sam Wills assisted “How I Feel” cutting to the core of the projects experimental take on the borderlines of electronic pop and R&B.

With his debut album for Kraak & Smaak‘s Boogie Angst imprint probed for release 2018, “Truth” is a fine front-runner to what promises to be a cool and collected affair from the Dutchman. With Beau Nox’s reliable vocals on hand, the track’s silky melodic licks and warm instrumentation draw comparisons to both Andersson .Paak and Tom Misch, but ooze an elegance and uplifting edge now commonly associated with Moods’ output. If this is the bar set for his debut album, Moods may well be one of the most important Dutch players of the coming months.
