The Chainsmokers add their touch to Mallrat’s filmy fan favorite—stream ‘Wish on an Eyelash, Pt. 2’

In a short-and-sweet 58 seconds that feel rooted in a familiar yet distant gossamer dreamland, “Wish on an Eyelash” opens Mallrat’s debut studio album, Butterfly Blue. Wispy, succinct, and possessive of an elusive sense of magic, from its lyrical candor to its topline, “Wish on an Eyelash” sounds like a song The Chainsmokers would have taken on in their mid-2000’s remix era, had it existed then. But in the here and now, “Wish on an Eyelash” acts as a time machine that sonically transports Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall back to this period. On an unexpected official remix of the Butterfly Blue belonging that’ll inspire that warm and fuzzy feeling of familiarity in listeners who’ve followed The Chainsmokers since those early days, Taggart and Pall embody the essence of the style that first put them on the map while leaning into their more recently developed lo-fi sensibilities.

The remix, which marks The Chainsmokers’ first new music unrelated to their So Far So Good rollout, is a serendipitous addition to their catalog that took even Mallrat by surprise. “A few weeks ago, I was completely taken by surprise when I logged on to Twitter to see The Chainsmokers had remixed the song out of pure love for it—we had never met or talked! For something so big to happen organically like this is really special and really rare,” she said. She’d go on to send the boys the stems, yielding what feels like one of the year’s most synergistic recastings.
