Listen to Nine Inch Nails’ new EP, ‘Not The Actual Events’

Trent Reznor has finally released his much-anticipated Nine Inch Nails EP Not The Actual Events, which he made with his newest collaborator and bandmate, Atticus Ross. The five-tracker is “an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record,” according to Reznor, and the first song he’s made available for listening, “Burning Bright (Fields On Fire),” certainly fits this idea. Chaotic as ever, we hear Reznor’s brash vocals accompanying angry, pounding electric guitar chords for an explosion of sound whose darkness is palpable.

The EP also showcases Reznor’s unrelenting musical standards; nearly three decades after he founded the band, he remains fully capable of creating timeless, avant-garde sounds that maintain Nine Inch Nails’ reputation as one of the more forward-thinking bands in existence.

Not The Actual Events is out today, December 23 — just in time to meet the 2016 deadline announced by Reznor one year ago.
