BREAKING NEWS: 2 dead, 23 injured in hit and run at SXSW
According to the Austin Police Department, two people have died, leaving 23 injured and at least five in critical condition, after a hit and run during SXSW. It has been reported that a drunken suspect was driving the wrong direction on a one-way street, plowing through a barricade and hitting a man and a woman on a moped, a taxi, and a van, just before fleeing his car by foot. The man, who was successfully captured, is now in custody and faces two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault by vehicle.
In a statement from Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, he says, “Austin Police Department is investigating this matter as allegedly involving drunk driving. If this is true, this fact angers me. Drunk driving is never acceptable, and can lead to deadly consequences.”
23 individuals have been transported. Of those 5 are in critical condition, 2 deceased. #SXSW
