Robbie Rivera at Juicy Beach NY: 5 Tracks You Need To Know

Governors Island has been quite busy this year. Things got off to a rough start, but Made Event quickly remedied problems the following week. Dash Berlin ended June with style and Alesso held his 21st birthday party on the island a few weeks ago. When we made our way back to the island for Juicy Beach, we knew it would be a fun-filled time.

The night was opened by Manuel de la Mare, Paige, Stefano Noferini, and EDX (who played a killer set) before Robbie Rivera took to the stage at 9PM to a decently sized crowd. There was plenty of room to dance and lots of picnic tables to rest at, creating the perfect scene to enjoy some beats from the father of all things Juicy. Check past the break for 5 tracks you need to know from Robbie’s set.

5. Robbie Rivera -” Departures” (Cosmic Gate Remix)

Cosmic Gate took the classic “Departures” and made it into the perfect trance mix to close a set with. Robbie had already built the crowd’s energy and hit the climax and this was the perfect  track to top off a great set. The light vocals combine with the bassline to bring us back to earth after such a high energy and uplifting set.

4. Guru Josh – “Infinity” (Robbie Rivera Juicy mix)

“Infinity 2008” destroyed radios and could be attributed as one of the songs that originally turned me on to dance music. Robbie took the original song and slowed down the beat to make it fit for his sets. The version sounds a lot mellower than the original but still retains the horns that made this song pop.

3. Avicii – “Last Dance”

While Avicii’s “Last Dance” hasn’t yet been released, it is most certainly another future banger. The house-style beat quickly picks up into progressive house, while an added whistle makes for something a bit different. When Robbie dropped this towards the end of his set it fit perfectly and the crowd went wild. It is great to finally see some newer Avicii tracks getting some recognition.

2. The Joy Formidable – “A Heavy Abacus” (Qulinez Remix)

Qulinez took the Joy Formidable’s “A Heavy Abacus,” applied some of their signature whiney synths, and turned it into a masterpiece that became a staple of  sets from the likes of Tiesto, and now Robbie Rivera. “A Heavy Abacus” is a progressive track that works magic at shows, the song is uplifting and euphoric bringing many to sing this on the top of their lungs. Robbie dropped this after “Infinity” and it really worked well together.

1. Robbie Rivera – “Forever Young”

This remix of the classic Alphaville song is something that could bring even the seasoned party veteran to tears. The remix starts off slow until the added synths help build the song and the beat drops. Definitely a great remix and keeps the age old classic fresh.  This track was mixed into “Insomnia” after which kept the crowd going.

An unexpected song at a house show but when dropped the crowd seemed to love the remix. The heavier bass beat combines with the lyrics to create an old fashioned banger. This was probably a favorite of Robbie’s older fans but the whole island seemed to be having a great time.
