Watch This: James Murphy wants to make New York subways sing
LCD Soundsystem’s former frontman, James Murphy, has always been one of the most creative men in electronic music. The softspoken DJ/Producer’s latest dream project aims to make his home city of New York’s subway system a lot less unpleasant. The concept involves reconfiguring the turnstiles to play unique and soothing tones rather than the harsh beeps currently in place when travelers pass through.
“I started noticing the subway sounds quite brutal, why don’t we just make it a nice sound? Just make it pleasant?”
Although still nothing more than a concept, the MTA is currently planning on re-configuring the subway system from top to bottom and Murphy’s proposal could see the light of day — that is as long as MTA officials care.
And sadly, according to spokesperson Adam Linsberg, they don’t.
