Alcatraz – Giv Me Luv (Nicole Moudaber + Trent Cantrelle Remixes)
20-years down the line, Deep Dish’s Yoshitoshi Recordings should be feeling pretty smug with its contributions to underground house music. In 1996, Alcatraz made with one of the label’s most influential cuts, unbeknown that 18-years later “Giv Me Luv” would still hold its corner as one of ‘those’ timeless records. As the follow-up to remix duties for “House Music,” there was a relatively high precedent set, but two of the underground’s finest found time to remember one of the label’s most celebrated instalments.
Techno heavyweight Nicole Moudbaer does what the queen of MOOD does best, warping the infectious original into a booming main room techno cut with enough jack to wink with a cheeky sense of respect to the original. Coming-of-age American tech house don Trent Cantrelle slips with equal ease into this little number, giving the chunky original a pinch of groovy, low-end favouring floor fuel from the increasingly promising talent. You’d have struggled to find two talents for capable of taking on the spoils of the infamous label towards younger taste buds, but this is a valiant shelf life extension for a track that will never tire as Yoshitoshi’s immortal landmark.
