Hayden James – Something About You (Original Mix)
Future Classic continues to immortalize house music’s shelf life one versatile cut at a time. Though he doesn’t visit all that often, Sydney’s Hayden James has remained a name bent on a similar mission, baring an ample closet of cutting edge remixes that almost makes amends for his less generous way with original releases. Back on the label for the first time since his namesake 2013 EP, James makes with rare but wonderful evidence that his intuitive take on the sound is all the more scared on his own terms.
From its hooky topline to its playful lead work, James’s intuitive sound takes a little more concentration than the staple low-end favoring sound now doing the rounds, but the reward is a delicate and infectious insight into where house music is moving on a global scale. “Something About You” has the power to do what Ben Pearce’s “What I Might Do” did two years ago for a new generation of genre advocates and the Aussie hopeful sounds capable of playing a huge part in the journey. We can’t stop the masses from giving it a strange genre handle, but we can assure you that Hayden James still sounds like one of the nation’s most exciting house artists of the past three years.
