Jamie xx debuts at #1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart
UK garage and trip hop producer Jamie xx nabs the number one spot on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart with his solo debut album, In Colour, released June 1. The 26-year-old Brit, real name Jamie Smith, is also a musical force to be reckoned with outside of electronica producing Rihanna and Drake’s platinum-selling collaboration ‘Take Care’ and “When It’s All Over” off Alicia Keys’ 2012 studio album Girl On Fire. As one-third of indie pop band The xx, Jamie’s premiere record is an eclectic body of work that showcases his wide-ranging and unique diversion in sounds. From more melodic tracks like “Loud Places” featuring Romy to garage-tinged ambient songs like “Sleep Sound”, it’s easy to understand how Jamie’s 10-track diverse repertoire sold 19,000 copies in its first week of sales.
