Listen to Sam Smith’s James Bond theme song ‘Writing’s on the Wall’
After announcing just a few weeks ago that Sam Smith was given the honor of recording the next James Bond theme song, a stream of “Writing’s On the Wall” has predictably set the Internet ablaze with instant comparisons. Detouring from the series’ dramatic anthems of the past from acts like Adele, Paul McCartney and Alicia Keys and Jack White, Smith offers a more heartfelt and emotional side to the testosterone-ridden franchise with his effortless soul and high falsetto that’s made him the in-demand artist he is today. While the track may not prove worthy enough of an Oscar (Adele won for “Skyfall” in 2013), it’s audaciously poignant lyrics “How do I live? How do I breathe? / When you’re not here I’m suffocating” highlight the male’s ego-centric demise – all guns, cars and bikini-clad chicks aside – in the quest for love. Listen to the track below.
