Major Lazer one-up themselves on new ‘Light It Up’ remix
Major Lazer have had their biggest year since the group’s formation, and the dancehall triumvirate shows no indication of slowing down anytime soon. This year alone, Diplo, Walshy Fire and Jillionaire have secured a radio show on Apple Music’s Beats1 platform, brought their fictional freedom fighter to life in their own animated cartoon show, and dropped their highly-anticipated full-length, Peace Is The Mission. The record’s follow-up, Music Is The Weapon, is slated for sometime next year, though Diplo has confirmed this year’s album is being reissued to include five new tracks.
Leading the way is a remix of “Light It Up” that catches Major Lazer re-imagining their own work with a fresh new spin. The original Nyla-accompanied tune blends future bass themes with glittering synths and poppy patois, and on the remix, Major Lazer invite Fuse ODG to up the ante on the second rendition. Providing a backbone of infectious, breezy horn interludes, the dancehall heroes continue to trickle out material from their stock, with signs only pointing to more music soon.
