Mark Sherry & Gene Karz – Spacewarp EP
Despite having forged a name for himself in the trance scene, Mark Sherry began his career and still maintains a large admiration for techno. After having found success with his tech trance-centric label Outburst Records in 2014, the Scottish pioneer launched Techburst Records shortly after to showcase the darker, grungier side of electronic music.
Over a year after its inception, December 28 finally saw Sherry debuting his first original techno EP on the label with rising Belarus producer Gene Karz. Its namesake track, “Spacewarp,” incorporates acid tones and angry percussion into futuristic soundscape that smashes through whatever sound system it’s playing on. Meanwhile on the lower end, “Global Eclipse” employs a more nuanced essence, with tight production and minimal chord progressions that keep you on your toes until the end of the record. The high caliber production on the EP is exactly what we’ve come to expect from the legend, who is already setting himself up for a prosperous year with his debut appearance in LA later in the month.
