Twitter invests in headphone startup, Muzik

Twitter has expanded beyond the confines of Social Media, using its status as one of the US’s leading tech companies to launch Twitter Venture. Until now, the offshoot has concerned itself primarily with other companies related to the tech field, such as beacon marketing or Android alternatives. Now, as they realize the significance of music to their revenue, the company has set its first sights in the industry on a headphone startup called Muzik.

Muzik headphones are meant to serve as high-end competitors to brands such as Beats’ headphones. Set at $299 retail value with an in-ear version for $199 to be released at a later date, the wireless headset comes with an added feature of being able to share song clips of what you’re listening to on social media. Listeners are also able to control which songs they’re playing via buttons on the side of the ears.

Ultimately, the investment represents Twitter’s recognition of the increasing role music plays in their service. It’s the most talked about topic among users, while some of Twitter’s most elite members are musicians. Therefore, capitalizing on the industry is a stable investment to make as it continues its goals of expanding into other areas of business. In exchange for the investment and Twitter’s integration into the headphones, Muzik will also get to show off some of its products at Twitter’s CES display coming up shortly in Las Vegas.
