Diplo and Jauz team up to remix MØ’s ‘Final Song’
Danish vocalist MØ was propelled to international fame when Diplo recruited her to sing for Major Lazer‘s benchmark 2015 hit, the ubiquitous “Lean On.” Given the global success of “Lean On,” it’s unsurprising that the two artists have remained frequent associates. Following a string of collaborations, most notably the Justin Bieber-assisted “Cold Water, Diplo has again lent his production talent to MØ’s vocal stylings, collaboratively remixing her balladic hit, “Final Song,” with Jauz.
The result of the remixing parties’ efforts is somewhat surprising. While a dark, grungy sensibility pervaded the poppy sultriness of the original track, Jauz and Diplo’s revision is significantly docile — an unexpected twist given Jauz’s bass-heavy track record. Though the two producers enliven the original song by increasing the tempo, they replace its gritty basslines with mystically calmative synth-work, while leaving the vocals largely intact.
