The Skrillex and Chris Lake-curated ‘HOWSLA’ compilation has arrived [Stream]
Sonny Moore may not be the first face that comes to mind when one hears the term “house music.” Be that is it may, house music, or house’s general tempo, has actually been a key facet of Skrillex‘s game since day one, often disguised by the snarling sonics he’s built his name upon; think “Rock N’ Roll,” or “Weekends!!!” Now, Skrillex has gathered a group of emerging young artists and label-regulars to officially pay homage to the venerable genre with a handful of fresh, inventive new takes. With curation duties shared between OWSLA‘s head honcho and UK house legend Chris Lake, the new compilation rounds off at 12 tracks with the apt title HOWSLA.
The release’s roll-out began with Lake’s eerily catchy club cut “I Want You,” shortly followed by Alex Metric and Confessional’s “Freeek.” Now ten additional tracks, including a new dance floor bulldozer from Skrillex himself and French beatmaker Habstrakt, have finally arrived. Wiwek, JOYRYDE, Autoerotique, and Tony Romera among others are featured on the new collection as well. Now making the genre officially his own, Skrillex and company are back with new house hedonism, that isn’t your typical four-on-the-floor club fare. But then again, it wouldn’t be OWSLA if it was.
