Zedd writes score for new National Geographic documentary, ‘One Strange Rock’

From M&Ms commercials to the cover of Forbes, Zedd’s career continues to surge ahead with undeviating momentum and unsurprising versatility.

The Grammy award-winning artist’s latest endeavor figures Zedd as the writer of the cinematic score for National Geographic’s new documentary, “One Strange Rock.” Hosted by recent Ultra 20 surprise guest Will Smith and directed by Darren Aronofsky, “One Strange Rock” is a 10-part series that chronicles the history of the universe.

“I got an email basically saying that Nat Geo is looking for a musical piece to be composed by me that doesn’t necessarily sound like me,” Zedd said. “It was about me composing a piece for something that Aronofsky directed, and I’m a big fan, so immediately I saw that name and I was like [yes]…I was really interested.”

Zedd’s partnership has additionally allowed the “Stay” hit-maker to tap into his classical roots. “It is very different [from a traditional Zedd release],” Zedd added. “I come from classical music, so this is much more in line with what I used to do 20 years ago.”

“One Strange Rock” premiered on March 26. Fans can sample Zedd’s cinematic sound via “One Strange Rock’s” official trailer.
