The Chainsmokers’ summer smash ‘Side Effects’ gets remix treatment from Fedde Le Grand, The Magician, and more
The Chainsmokers know their formula, and they execute it well with undeniable consistency, but their latest single, “Side Effects,” featuring Emily Warren (leading up to their second studio full-length release) felt a little different. Arriving in late July on Disruptor/Columbia Records, the song relies less on the pop-perfect minimalism of past smashes, centered instead around a slap bass groove that would sound right at home in a Bruno Mars record.
Now that mood has been further flipped by an array of top-tier remixers, including Fedde Le Grand, The Magician, Nolan Van Lith, Barkley, and Sly. Outside of Nolan van Lith’s future bass take, the remix pack brings an array of four-to-the-floor interpretations across the spectrum of house. From the laid-back shuffle of The Magician’s take, to Le Grand’s electro-house energy, the collection finds Warren’s infectious vocals finding new feeling in each rework.
