Harvard Bass – Break It Down

San Diego local Harvard Bass made his name in the house sphere with a little collaboration titled “Lazer Beams” alongside Green Velvet. In the years past since that release, he’s continued to define his vivacious brand of tech house with releases on Turbo, Sci + Tec, and other well-known imprints that prove his prowess.

His latest two tracker lands on Demuir’s imprint Purveyor Underground, with its B-side serving as a particularly grooving number. Sparse, yet impactful, crisp drum patterns and throbbing house kicks urge movement, with hits of vocal recording only pushing the action further. “Break It Down” is a no-frills sizzler, evoking imagery of open-air house parties and summer vibes — we’re not surprised it’s been steadily climbing the tech house charts since its July 23 release.

Prior to Step It Up, Harvard Bass found himself on Moon Harbour after being tapped for Ninetoes remix duties. His take was much in the same vein as his current release, with him opting to make the most out of percussion, a bassline, and minimal synths and vocal clips.
