Watch Chromeo bring the funk on their NPR Tiny Desk Concert

While Chromeo‘s recorded catalog is impressive on its own, there is always something special about watching the Funk Lordz’s energetic live set. While stripping back their usually extravagant stage set-up, Montreal-natives Dave1 and P-Thugg have brought along a full band to NPR’s iconic Tiny Desk series.

Playing three songs from their new album, Head Over Heels, and tossing in their 2014 highlight, “Jealous,” Chromeo and their live ensemble unveil new, textured versions of their sleek originals. Their Philly-based backing band’s two percussionists energize the room, while the keyboardist brings the warm, analog layer that’s a characteristic hallmark of Chromeo’s work. As P-Thugg flexes his multi-instrumental skills on the bass guitar and his signature talkbox, rousing renditions of “Count Me Out,” “Must’ve Been,” and “Don’t Sleep,” prove once again why Chromeo’s 1980s-inspired body of work remains so timeless.
