Technics might soon release a new turntable

Several images that surfaced on the Instagram account of hi-fi audio brand manufacturer, Technics, could indicate the Japanese company will soon release new hardware, namely, the next installment in the SL-1200 family. Technics’ recent announcement of a “Live Streaming Event” situated in Las Vegas on January 7, with appearances from Kenny Dope, Derrick May, Cut Chemist, and DJ Koco precipitated speculation that a new product is on its way, given the streaming event’s reference of MK7. Technics notably releases the MK6 in 2007, but has not followed the MK6 with an updated version.

In past years, Technics has directed its attention to the introduction of luxury SL models that have traditionally commanded high retail prices. Although some claim Technics has overlooked its central audience in its production of upscale models, the turntable that is suspected to soon enter the market could mark Technics’ return to more affordable turntable design. If Technics were to present a cost-efficient version to DJs, Technics could further be in a position to directly compete with Pioneer DJ and Reloop’s price sensitive options. The least expensive item currently available in the Technics line is the SL-1210GR at $1,364.
