Shlohmo goes full circle with the release of long-lost track, ‘Ghosts’

Henry Laufer, best known as Shlohmo, follows up the his rock-marinated 2019 LP, The End, by going back to where it all began. He celebrates a decade of chopped and screwed bass releases with “Ghosts,” an O.G. Shlohmo track that’s managed to vanish since it was first posted to the L.A. producer’s MySpace back in 2009.

“This was before the extra H got added to my name lol. It was my first summer back home from college before I dropped out. I was interning at Dublab, staying in my old room in my parents house smoking weed out the window making music alone until the sun came up,” says Shlohmo on the track’s release. “Later that year (2009) FoF Music hit me up on myspace wanting to sign me and re-release the EP for real on vinyl and iTunes and all that. I added a few new songs, took off a couple for sample reasons. The result was 2010’s ‘Shlomoshun Deluxe.’ Since then, those removed tracks have not been released anywhere. So for the first time since 2009, here’s the long lost track ‘Ghosts.'”

Soft and delicate aren’t words typically associated with bass music, but “Ghosts” pulls them off with ease. Strong in its own right, “Ghosts'” statement is all the mightier when juxtaposed with Shlohmo’s productions a decade later, giving long-time fans unique insight into the electronic auteur’s artistic journey.
