Beatport taps Carl Cox, John Digweed, and more for first ‘Together For Beirut’ fundraiser

After a warehouse explosion in Beirut, Lebanon claimed the lives of at least 170 people and injured more than 6,000 others in early August, Beatport personnel paused their COVID-19–related efforts to put together a two-day, 24-hour ReConnect stream to direct attention to those affected by the tragedy.

To be hosted across two separate dates, August 22 and September 13, the virtual fundraiser, “Together For Beirut,” has recruited more than 20 of house and techno’s all-stars to perform throughout its first part, including Carl Cox, John Digweed, Nicole Moudaber, Paco Osuna, and more. Moudaber, who assisted in leading the charge for the fundraiser, expanded on the goal of raising a quarter of a million dollars for those impacted, stating,

“These fundraising events will provide much needed relief and support to the people of Beirut and the many affected by the recent tragedy. Officials estimate the explosion caused up to $15 billion (£11.5bn) of damage. International financial aid and support has been overwhelming, but it’s not enough. We must support in any way we can to help, and in addition, our efforts will also be helping the music and arts industry of Lebanon which has been wiped out.”

Together For Beirut will direct all proceeds to Impact Lebanon in support of the Lebanese Red Cross, Arcenciel, and various music and arts organizations in Beirut. Tune into Beatport’s Twitch channel beginning at 1:00 p.m. EST / 10 a.m. PST on August 22 for part one, and 11:00 a.m. EST / 8:00 a.m. PST on September 13 for part two.
