Burial conjures up rare remix for Charles Webster’s return

The eminent Charles Webster has not only announced the release of Decision Time, his first LP in nearly 20 years, but is also giving fans a taste of the upcoming work through a rare remix from the UK’s equally respected Burial.

Burial takes the reins on “The Spell,” composing an artifact-laden electronic soliloquy from Webster’s soothing, narrative-driven single. The new mix sets a crackly stage for Ingrid Chavez’ spoken word lyrics, which are ultimately propped up by whirring synths, soft harmonies, and the reticent shuffle that helps define the UK bass sound. Nostalgic without ever feeling sterile, Burial’s approach to Webster’s work as a passion project is as sonically evident as ever.

In addition to his mix of “The Spell,” fans can find Burial with further credits on Webster’s Decision Time, having co-produced the subsequent track “The Second Spell.” Burial’s mix has a vinyl street date of October 9, but is available to stream now. Decision Time is scheduled to arrive in full on November 20, with pre-orders available now.
