Good Morning Mix: Relive Michael Canitrot’s breathtaking set from Château de Vincennes, France

Any trained DJ will tell you—setting can be everything. But in a post-COVID-19 world where it is impossible to pile into a sweaty warehouse or club with a few hundred others, selectors have had to get crafty with their settings. While some have gravitated to less than ideal holdovers and lo-fi performance setups, others have taken advantage of the notion of crowd-less performances, utilizing some of the most remarkable settings for their DJ sets. Topping that list is French selector Michael Canitrot with his recent hour-long bout from Château de Vincennes.

Perched 52 meters up, atop the highest dungeon in Europe, Canitrot delivered a spectacular performance accompanied by AV-Exciters mapping projections onto the castle’s facade. The performance, part of the Monumental Tour, came as a celebratory end of the European Heritage Days, one of the most widely celebrated cultural events in Europe. The performance even got the attention of French president, Emmanuel Macron, who shared a congratulatory statement with Canitrot after the Château de Vincennes DJ set. Canitrot’s performance intermingled a collection of melodies from the likes of fellow European artists such as Nic Fanciulli, &ME, and Camelphat to complement his own productions, where he debuted four upcoming IDs from his upcoming album Cycle, set to be released in 2021.

With a tightly curated tracklist, a legitimately unbeatable setting, state-of-the-art tech, and beautiful views, Michael Canitrot’s Château de Vincennes is one we won’t soon forget.
