Martial Simon issues ambient reboot of Rusted Root’s ‘Send Me on My Way’

Nearly 30 years after American rock band Rusted Root released “Send Me on My Way,” the song, featured in the 1996 film Matilda, is getting an ambient recasting, courtesy of Martial Simon. Out now via GET SET Records, Simon’s contemporary rinse of “Send Me on My Way” merges ambient sound with progressive-house inflection. Its bright chords and upbeat packaging render it a candidate for windows-down road play in warmer months, and how its vocal came to be is nothing short of serendipity. Simon sources the topline from Nashville-based vocalist Mike Burke, who happened to attend the same high school as Simon.

“We both loved the original…growing up. What better way to remake it, together with the same vision? A powerful drop with soulful vocals, perfect for any dance floor or beach party,” Simon said.

The “Send Me on My Way” remake tacks on to a flair-ridden 2021 that saw Simon make a name for himself in dance circles, starting with his nu-disco cover of “Let’s Hear It For The Boy,”and quickly followed by “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” and “A Little Respect,” which claimed the No. 1 spot on Beatport’s Hype chart. Meanwhile, Simon’s closing single of 2021, “Don’t You Forget About Me” with Chris Ferrara, still occupies the same chart, sitting at No. 3 at the time of this writing.
