Dead Weight unleashes dastardly single, ‘The Swarm’
Thrashing sonics set the tone for “The Swarm,” Chicago-based producer Jackson Iturbide’s third all-time career single under his Dead Weight project. A heavy-handed answer to April 13’s “Open Sore,” “The Swarm” has the sort of staggering presence that would cast it as a natural fit for a pit at Lost Lands or one in another bass-concentrated setting. Pulling influence from rock, metal, and screamo in a bass- and dubstep-driven framework, “The Swarm” is a speaker-filling weapon that channels Iturbide’s passion for music production to a dizzying jaunt that, according to him, “represents anxiety and loss of control.” “It seems you can contain the chaos, but you can’t stop it,” he remarked, adding that the Dead Weight alias’ “brutal and aggressive style is pushed with the intention of relief.”
Though Dead Weight is but a few one-offs into his career, assuredly, he’s got firepower, and it glints below.
