Jason Ross reunites with Anjunabeats for ABGT500 ID, ‘A Place They Called Home’

“Think I’m gonna let Above & Beyond premiere something new from me this Saturday..” Just a couple of days before the Anjuna heads celebrated a milestone 500th episode of Group Therapy live from Los Angeles’ Banc Of California Stadium, Jason Ross somehow boosted excitement levels for ABGT500 with the teaser of a yet-to-be disclosed ID. And while he was in the midst of his Atlas album tour, a new Jason Ross ID was added into the mix at the hands of Above & Beyond. Five months later, Jason Ross is back on Anjunabeats—marking his first label original since “The Accord” in August of 2022 and his first label appearance since his “Rebound” remix in early 2022—with “A Place They Called Home.”

Understandably named one of Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated releases of 2023, “A Place They Called Home” sees Jason Ross move over from Ophelia Records to Anjunabeats—after delivering “From Ashes To Love” earlier in the year—with a “a little taste of what’s to come from [him] in the new year.” A musical homage to his mother’s family, “A Place They Called Home” winds up a potent medley of progressive, trance, and techno, with a militant opening drop that glides into a goosebump-inducing progressive on its latter side. Jason Ross explained the title behind his Anjunabeats reunion and its larger meaning, adding,

“‘A Place They Called Home,’ is a tribute to my mom’s side of my family, who left their home country, Iran, over 40 years ago. Growing up as a child, I was exposed to their beautiful culture and music; this is one of the reasons behind why I naturally gravitated to more emotionally driven music like trance and progressive. It was so nice to go back to my roots with this song. It’s a more modern approach to my earlier tracks like ‘Atlas’ and ‘Cairo’ while still maintaining that emotional identity.”
