Nurko returns with Avicii-inspired, indie-folk crossover with Cruel Youth, ‘Too Long’

For the past month, Nurko had been gradually teasing what could have only been assumed to be his first original since the end of the 2022 summer. And the former Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch is now ready to move forward with those plans. After linking back up with ILLENIUM for a co-rework of “Golden Hour,” Nurko is officially back with his “Eternity” successor in the form of “Too Long” with Cruel Youth.

The “Too Long” title takes on a double meaning, with it not only speaking to the time since Nurko’s meeting with Dayce Williams but also to its actual runtime, with him explaining that its overarching purpose was to “feel like a journey.” Sitting at almost five minutes long and inspired by Avicii and Aloe Blacc’s “Wake Me Up”—one of Nurko’s favorite releases from the late Swedish icon—”Too Long” intentionally falls on the lengthier side of Nurko’s musical record and sees his unequaled approach to melodic bass fall direectly in the middle with an “indie folk-inspired” combination of guitar-driven acoustics and Cruel Youth’s chilling vocal. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait “Too Long” for another Nurko release in 2023, with him adding that there’s “a lot more new music to come” on Astralwerks.
