JVNA drops second studio album ‘Play With You’

Back in August, when JVNA launched her single “Play With You,” it foreshadowed a transformative phase for the American-Taiwanese artist. A multi-faceted talent based in California, she has spent half a decade crafting electronic soundscapes that juxtapose light with shadow, rhythm with harmony, and nature with the sounds of a technological dystopia. Now, with the full 11-track album out, JVNA unveils a persona that draws from the mystique of a demonic, anime-inspired siren, manifested in opening track “The Game (Prelude)” where she beckons unsuspecting listeners to free her from her shackles.

From there, her villainous side is released and the album starts its journey of insidious intent. The prelude is quickly followed by “The World Is Mine,” characterized by its rap sequences and growling bass. Tracks like “Demon Time” deliver haunting melodies, “Take Your Throne” pays homage to trance and hardstyle, and “Savage” is a master class in melodic dubstep. “Hellfire,” “City Ruins” and the album’s lead single “Play With You” round out her sophomore effort with a siren’s song meant to lure unsuspecting listeners into her trap, crashing their ships along the jagged rocks of dark and foreboding electronica.
