In response to local concerns Wavefront moves to new location
2013's installment of Wavefront left local residents unhappy as government officials told the festival organizers that they need to fix their noise and traffic problems or move the lakefront festival elsewhere. Last year, the festival took place in the 46th ward in Uptown at Montrose Avenue Beach and, assuming all the paperwork clears, Wavefront's 2014 festival will be held on 31st Street Beach (3100 Lake Shore Drive) during July 4th weekend. The new location is approximately 3 miles down the coast, moving the festival away from the nearby communities who were unhappy with last year's noise and traffic issues.
Wavefront under fire after numerous noise complaints threaten festival’s future
After last year's Wavefront left local residents "livid," officials on Chicago's North Side have told festival organizers they need to fix their noise and traffic problems or find another location for the lakefront festival. Dan Luna, chief of staff to city Alderman Harry Osterman, spoke Thursday; "We're waiting for the organizers to come back to our office with what their plans are to address the concerns of both communities in the 46th and 48th wards."
Nicolas Jaar, Damian Lazarus and Crew Love close out Wavefront Festival Day 3 with force
Despite the abrupt news early on that Lee Burridge's scheduled Day 3 All Day I Dream stage was canceled (for reasons unknown), the final day of Wavefront version 2.0, gave Chicago fans plenty to write home about.
Chicago Heritage legends reclaim throne at Wavefront Festival Day 2
With an overcast sky and many festival goers still recovering from the night before, the Saturday edition of the Wavefront Music Festival got off to a slow start, but by no means does that mean it was not one for the record books. The Wave Stage brought the bass with quality names like Caspa and Rusko, the Oasis Stage hosted some of the guys from Seth Troxler's Visionquest label as well as a lengthy set from the three men of Apollonia, and of course, the Legends tent belonged to Chicago house veterans Frankie Knuckles, Jamie Principle, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Ralphi Rosario, and Gene Farris (among others). Here's what really stuck out for us yesterday:
Danny Tenaglia, DJ Tennis and Guy Gerber shine on Day 1 of Wavefront Music Festival
With the rest of the country still nursing Independence Day hangovers, dance fans from all corners of the country flocked to Chicago's Montrose Beach for the second year of Wavefront Music Festival. There are more stages, there's a giant inflatable water slide and ferris wheel, and although there isn't quite any direct access to the water from the festival, exploring the sights and sounds of a beach-front festival is an experience unlike many others right now in the crowded US festival market. The weather cooperated (holding at a very pleasant 80 degrees with a breeze and sun), and the crowds were thinner than what we're expecting in the second two days. Click past the break for our highlights from day one of the festival.
