Coldplay – Midnight (Marcus Schössow Remix)
Well, that was quick. It was only a matter of time before the new Coldplay single, which had arrived yesterday, would be edited, bootlegged, and remixed by electronic artists — and it took less than 24 hours. The original record isn’t the norm from Chris Martin, but (as fans have let it been known) sounds a lot like Bon Iver, Radiohead, and/or Jon Hopkins. Regardless, “Midnight” is instrumentation driven, making it all the more an inviting canvas for producers to shape-shift. Marcus Schössow strikes first, and strikes gently. Rather than embedding his heavier, more impactful stylings of previous efforts, the producer takes on Coldplay’s newfound personality for himself and re-routes “Midnight” with indie house. That is the most sensible route, however, as the lack of true vocal hook makes it difficult to translate to thumping big room renditions.
