Watch This: Dillon Francis interviews Martin Garrix at ADE
Amsterdam Dance Event is a time when artists sit down to discuss where they’ve come and what’s in store for the future year ahead. The young sensation that is Martin Garrix was an undeniable highlight of this year’s ADE: the 18-year old Dutch native jumped an impressive 36 positions higher than last year on DJ Mag’s poll and played as a sold out headliner at multiple shows all throughout the five day event.
Friend and fellow producer Dillon Francis sat down with Martin to discuss the questions on everyone’s mind as only Dillon Francis could. Starting at age 8, Martin explains his fascination with creating music: “From a very young age, I dreamed of being a DJ. I saved up money to buy some shitty DJ equipment, made a big sign in front of my DJ booth that said ‘DJ Marty.’ It was fun.”
The “Animals” producer continued to list Tiësto as both his inspiration and in his opinion, best producer of all time despite he himself besting his mentor by one place in this year’s DJ Mag polling. As for advice for fellow producers still in the beginning steps of their journey, Martin encourages: “Put your time into producing and learning more, then the labels will find you.”
