Yotto – All I Want / Cycle (Original Mixes)
We haven’t heard a lot from Helsinki’s Otto Yliperttu over the past two years, but few movements made by his Yotto moniker have spoken a world of promise for the experimental house talent. Renowned for his 2012 take on M83’s “Intro,” the Finnish talent has remained notably tightfisted on the release bar an unofficial remix for London Grammar’s “Strong” back in September. He now takes the reigns of SoSure’s first formal digital release since its inauguration back in September, giving yet two further reason to believe that the modest Yliperttu is a Scandinavian heavyweight in training.
“All I Want” employs a chunk of that percussive stamina that has hallmarked his work to date whilst nodding to the bass favoring sound of modern house music, one given an original edge courtesy of the vocal samples that pervade the track. Paired with the deep, groovy and mesmerizing melodic stamina “Cycle,” the two-sided debut shows considerable aptitude in two contrasting yet essential dimensions within the modern house sound scope. Tech enough to be a club staple whilst relevant enough to turn less-trained ears towards his studio panache, Yotto reigns in two beautiful cuts to suggest that the sparing producer may be ready to spike for the final quarter of 2014.
