Armin van Buuren names most promising producers on new CNN series

CNN recently launched a series spotlighting creative talent on the rise within the world of entertainment, culture and the arts. Titled ‘Ones to Watch,’ the second episode in the series spotlights the electronic dance music scene, featuring legendary trance producer and DJ Armin van Buuren and the two producers he views as the next big names in EDM.

Van Buuren named Argentinian duo Heatbeat as one of today’s most innovative talents to keep an ear out for. With roots in trance and electro, the Armada-signed outfit is best known for hits such as ‘Chow Mein’ and, most recently, ‘Buenosaurus.’ On the show Heatbeat says having charisma and developing good production skills are only half the battle when it comes to establishing a name as an artist. “But if you reach that level of showing something different, you can say we have our own brand, we have our own signature. We may say ok, you did a really good job.”

Van Buuren’s other pick, 21-year-old DJ Andrew Rayel, is  a littler closer to the Armada label boss in terms of musical style. Nicknamed ‘the sound of Moldova’ and ‘modern-day Mozart’, the young producer has stunned audiences around the world with his focus on euphoric melody and orchestral harmony. Shy by nature, he tells CNN, “I never thought that me, from Moldova…can be right there with the big names, with the big DJs. I was dreaming about that – and it’s happening right now.”

The episode follows both producers as they work in the studio and prepare for upcoming live performances, and speaks to other big names in the dance music arena such as Steve Aoki and David Guetta, about making it in the world’s most rapidly growing music scene.
