Uber teams up with Spotify; now passengers control the soundtrack to their ride
After one too many instances in which a passenger has asked his Uber driver to “turn the radio on,” Uber and Spotify have teamed up to allow users to take on the role of DJ during their ride. The new feature, which will be added to Uber’s mobile app, will permit passengers to control the soundtrack to their ride via their driver’s Uber-provided cell phone. There is also a possibility that guests will be able to play tracks from their own playlists, making for a highly customized experience. Screenshots show that passengers will be given basic functions such as pause, skip, rewind and shuffle.
According to TechCrunch, the big reveal is expected to occur on Monday morning, as Uber invited the media to partake in a global conference call with CEO Travis Kalanick and a “Special Partner Guest” – suspected to be a representative from Spotify’s camp – to unveil a “first-of-its-kind partnership.” Stay tuned for more details.
