‘Tron 3’ gets the greenlight, Daft Punk to return for the score?
Recently news reached the wire that Disney will begin production on the sequel to their 2010 continuation of 80’s cult classic, Tron. Revisiting the franchise with Tron: Legacy not only brought an enormous budget for modern day visual effects but also briefly lured Daft Punk out of hiding, enlisting the French duo to score the digital thrill ride. The pair of masked robots even made a brief cameo in the sequel, DJing in a lavish, futuristic virtual-reality discotheque. Imagine that. Now with the project honing in on a start date sometime this fall for the third installment, pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together.
Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund will reprise their roles from Tron: Legacy although it is still unclear if Jeff Bridges will return for the third film. Also remaining unclear as of now is if Daft Punk will return to the studio to score Tron 3, although nobody else out there might be better suited for the job. For now, enigma still remains a big part of the dynamic duo’s appeal, so we will just have to wait and see if they emerge onto The Grid once more.
