Steve Aoki to undergo vocal cord surgery, cancels five European shows
Steve Aoki took to Facebook yesterday to publicly announce that the time is nigh. No – not to throw another cake into an anticipatory fan’s face but rather, quite the opposite. He explained that vocal cord surgery is no longer an option, but a necessity for the electro house mainstay who has been putting the procedure off “for quite some time.” And thus, Aoki was forced to cancel five of his European shows in Ibiza, Wijchen, Upminster and Newcastle.
Citing a “disgusting, puss-like white thing” that “constantly punches the other side” of his vocal cord, the 37-year-old producer gives fans insight into the damage that has transpired over the years. Photos are included in his three-minute video as physical evidence of his inflamed vocal chords. Watch the video.
I’m deeply saddened to share some terrible news with you guys. For the past 20 years, all the screaming at my shows have severely messed up my vocal chords. As a result, I have to get surgery or else I cannot even speak anymore. I’ve prolonged this surgery for quite some time and the doc said its now or never. Because of this, I unfortunately have to cancel some of the shows listed below in Europe. I apologize to everyone who has been waiting to see me perform. I will make it up to all of you very soon! I promise. Thanks for understanding. Love you all!
