Ida Engberg to throw Techno For Humanity event to aid Syrian refugees
Swedish techno icon Ida Engberg is harnessing her stardom to positively impact the community. Upon hearing of the dismal treatment of Syrian refugees trying to escape from their war-torn country, she took to her Facebook to see what ways she could help, throwing out the idea of a techno charity event in the process. “I know a lot of artists (myself included) who would be more than happy to play for free for this cause,” stated Engberg in her status.
Within three hours of the initial post, a representative from the Belgian promoter group IKON responded saying it was a great idea and the company would be happy to set up an event of this nature. On September 17th, Techno For Humanity will officially come to fruition at Belgium’s IKON club and will feature Ida, Marc Houle, Guti, Yousef, and several more notable techno artists playing across the club’s three rooms. Proceeds will be split equally between Médecins Sans Frontières, UNHCR, Migrant Offshore Aid Station, and the International Rescue Committee.
The show will also be streamed on Be-At.TV for fans who can’t make it to the event.
