Flying Lotus announces new Captain Murphy material, due out next year
Before everyone had an anonymous side-project, Flying Lotus created Captain Murphy. His rapping alter ego was featured on Flying Lotus’s full-length LP last year, but since then – while FlyLo squeezed every drop of juice out of 2015 – Murphy has been practically silent following his feature on You’re Dead!. Though Flying Lotus spent the year forming a new super group with Thundercat and Shabazz Palaces and holding down a host DJ spot on Comedy Central, he was also plotting the return of his psychedelic rapper alter ego. Spoiler alert: Captain Murphy will return with new material in 2016.
The trip-inducing Captain Murphy persona was originally born out of Adult Swim’s Singles Program in 2012. A full-length record, Duality, eventually came to fruition behind the Murphy guise but in the last few years FlyLo has kept the petal to the floor on his production identity. Now it is time for Captain Murphy to return, with Flying Lotus showing no signs of slowing down as we inch closer to 2016.
