Goa government calls for suspension of EDM festivals during ‘peak’ holiday season

Two of India’s biggest electronic dance music festivals – Sunburn and Supersonic – are being called upon by the Goan government to find new dates beginning next year. Both dance events take place each year from December 27-30 but the state’s Chief Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar, has met with both promoters and issued the following statement: “I called both the organizers (Sunburn’s Percept Ltd and Supersonic’s Viacom 18) and told them that this would not be tolerated. The dates of both the events should not clash and they should be conducted before December 15 or after January 15 from the next year.”

Parsekar went on to say that government officials, as well as local police, are worried about the safety of visitors and tourists in Goa during their peak season and that major music festivals like Sunburn and Stereosonic compromise security arrangements for both as well as the city’s. Thus, each need to decide upon new production dates, effective in 2016. Both fests still remain adamant about holding their respective events on the same scheduled dates in December.
