DA Premiere: BlackGummy – The Machine (Original Mix)

Enigmatic mau5trap artist BlackGummy first garnered attention in mid-2015 with his track “Lullaby,” released on the fourth volume of the label’s compilation series We Are Your Friends. “The Machine” follows up as the producer’s first single off of his forthcoming debut EP, Singularity.

“The Machine” packs a heavy dose of industrial tech house and derives its title from retro vocal samples spliced between pounding low-end and reverberating snares. The growling bassline is balanced by melodic interludes and synth stabs.

BlackGummy said about the EP:

“The idea of ‘technological singularity’ — the theory that artificial intelligence will one day surpass human intelligence — was the inspiration for this EP. I was really focused on the concept of extreme change, which can be felt throughout the arrangement of the tracks, to the samples and themes of each song. I started with the single, ‘The Machine,’ the invention of which was a pivotal moment in our history and our first step in the path towards singularity.”
