Reddit ranks their top 100 DJs
Fans on Reddit’s popular electronic music subreddit, r/EDM, have offered their take on the Top 100 DJs. As you’d expect given the demographic of the community, the list caters more towards EDM and crossover acts. Martin Garrix and The Chainsmokers, for instance, top the list, followed by fan-favorite Porter Robinson (despite not releasing any new music in 2016). Most of the successive names are also to be expected, such as Hardwell, KSHMR, and Marshmello.
Illenium, however, makes a surprising entrance at #8 on the list — a testament to the truly groundbreaking year he’s had in 2016, primarily fueled by viral remixes to artists like Flume and The Chainsmokers. Other noteworthy additions include Louis the Child at 62, Ekali at 77, and Rezz at 87 — three newcomers who are finally receiving the attention they deserve.
At the end of the day, one should always take DJ rankings with a grain of salt. No poll will ever be all-encompassing; no ranking will ever encapsulate the interests of the entire scene — it’s simply too large. A poll on r/electronicmusic, for instance, a sibling subreddit to r/EDM, would likely yield very different results.
