Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor and more to perform at Banksy’s ‘Walled Off Hotel’
Political satirist and anonymous street artist Banksy has established a near-mythical status with his insightful graffiti. His extremely poignant artwork has won him a plethora of prestigious awards and helped him achieve a status as a true virtuoso in the art world. Banksy’s first film, “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” was equally successful; bringing in an academy award nomination for Best Documentary in 2010.
In one of his more eccentric projects to date, Banksy has unveiled a new hotel in Bethlehem, Israel. Called the “Walled Off Hotel,” it is said to have “one of the worst views in the world.” The hotel is situated along the controversial West Bank barrier in Israel, which has been dubbed as the “apartheid wall” by Palestinians. The hotel features 9 rooms, each peppered with provocative art by Banksy himself.
The opening party featured a remote performance by the iconic Elton John. The hotel will also hold daily performances, with Trent Reznor, Massive Attack, legendary composer Hans Zimmer and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea to perform special recitals specifically made for the hotel’s mechanical piano.
Fatboy Slim was supposed to hold a special street party as well, which had to be postponed due to extensive road works.
