Gorillaz may have another surprise album in the works
2017 has been an exhilarating ride for Gorillaz fans.
The highly anticipated Humanz hit the shelves— paired with an extraordinary, over the top roll out— the group’s lead Damon Albarn has collaborated with Mura Masa, and the group’s since gone on to tour the world. It would seem, that in the mind of Albarn, their creative output will never end. In conjunction with that belief, Albarn’s announced Gorillaz may have another surprise album in their pipeline.
While Gorillaz is currently amidst their Humanz world tour, Albarn is already planning out the next move.
“I really like the idea of making new music and playing it live almost simultaneously,” Albarn told Q Magazine. “It will be a more complete record than ‘The Fall’, but hopefully have that spontaneity.”
In Dec. 2010, Gorillaz orchestrated the surprise release of their fourth album, The Fall. Now, it looks like they Albarn wants to echo a sentiment similar to this earlier record’s roll out once more.
“We’ve been discussing ideas for a new kind of live show,” he continued. “If we’re going to do more with Gorillaz we don’t want to wait seven years because, y’know, we’re getting on a bit now. We’re excited but we need to get these shows finished first. You never know what’s around the corner.”
“My dream of being able to see holograms of real people onstage is close now,” Albarn continued. “That was the idea at the beginning. We’ve been very patient and we don’t have that long left.”
Albarn hasn’t hinted at when this impulsive record will see the light of day. Judging by his hints at the work and the nature of a surprise, we’ll just have to wait and see. Even if he does foresee the end of Gorillaz in sight, fortunately, their work will live on in the electronic realm forevermore.
