A-Trak and Young Thug deliver surprise stunner ‘Ride For Me’
Hold the phones. A-Trak and Young Thug just reunited for an absolute burner.
Young Thug and A-Trak just dropped the needle on their new collaboration, “Ride For Me,” courtesy of Zane Lowe on Beats 1. The pair have a long history of collaboration and their latest is a charged-up return to the Low Pros days, this time bringing along LA’s Falcons and additional bars from 24hrs. “Ride For Me” finds Young Thug delivering mouthfuls of raw, vicious, distorted spits, tempered by 24hrs’ more leveled delivery. Of the new tag-team product, A-Trak explains,
“When we did ‘Ride For Me,’ I was in complete awe of Thug’s take. No one’s ever heard him sound like this. I’m really into sound manipulation — I’m a scratch DJ. Hearing Thug’s voice be so elastic, so malleable, testing the limits of what a human voice can sound like is incredible to me.”
With one foot already firmly planted in electronic music’s hall of fame, and another in the most renowned hip-hop circles of the moment, A-Trak is perhaps the most vital sonic barometer we have right now. After all, he’s been on record backing Young Thug for over half a decade now. He’s got his finger on the pulse unlike many other tastemaking figureheads, and best of all, he’s keeping us guessing this year. “Ride For Me” follows up on recent left field collaborations with Baauer and YehMe2, and with the release, the Fool’s Gold factotum has suggested that more work with Thugger could be on the way.
